Three basketball players standing on an indoor court, smiling at the camera. The player on the left is holding a basketball, wearing glasses, a light-colored t-shirt, olive shorts, and yellow shoes. The player in the middle, also holding a basketball, is wearing a blue t-shirt, black shorts with orange accents, and bright blue shoes. The player on the right, holding a basketball, is wearing a white t-shirt with 'BALLISLIFE' printed on it, camouflage shorts, and neon green shoes.

“I’ve never really had any training like this before. Most training puts you in really basic environments where you’re relying on the environment of the drill. The drills we do here are more reminiscent of how a game actually works. It’s not just a bunch of reps or about your success rate at the drill. It’s more about testing your limits and pushing yourself so that when you get into the game, you’re prepared to perform at a higher level.

Before I came in, I wasn’t that great at finishing with my off hand or with more crafty finishes. During the sessions, I’ve been able to improve on that. Sometimes I’ll fail, but the whole point is understanding what I did wrong and how to fix it. The drills are hard, but they’re not discouraging because they’re actually helping you improve a lot faster.”

“As a parent, I think Jon’s approach is super smart and innovative. My son is usually playing against bigger, stronger, faster and older players, and I’ve been able to see how effective the training is in game environments. Jon is training his brain to make those last-second adjustments that happen in a game. As far as what we want to train our hoopers for, I think it’s an added layer that you don’t really get anywhere else.”

“It’s unorthodox, but it’s a good unorthodox. It’s a bunch of different stuff — more live, contested stuff instead of just cone work and stuff like that. So it’s a lot more engaging, and it brings a lot more out of you.

Being a shooter and scorer, doing all this live stuff is really helpful because it’s read and react. Like in a game, you’ve got to just make a split-second decision. Instead of having a plan, you’ve just got to be able to react.”

DEC SHAW | College Player

“Working out with Jon helped me stop overthinking my jump shot. I was worrying so much about snapping my wrist and focusing on my guide hand, and he really helped me just focus on shooting the ball. That helped me out a lot.

Jon’s training is really good for game-like situations. Sometimes you might have a defender in the gap and a big man in help. Sometimes the paint might be open. I feel like Jon’s work helps a lot with seeing the different variability that you’re going to see in a game. If a guy goes under the screen, if a guy’s tagging the help side, etc. When you work out with other coaches it’s just a lot of reps. Jon has a lot more live reps.”

NOAH RAMIREZ | Sonoma Academy • 2028

“Working with Jon challenges us with our shooting and getting game-realistic shots. Whenever I’m coming off the ball in a game or coming off screens, I think about my footwork and what I’ve practiced with Jon.

You can tell he likes training us, and he builds good relationships with us. I think that really helps players commit and develop more as a player.”
